LSA Opportunity Hub
The career center of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. It helps students find internships and jobs, and works with employers, alumni, and departments across the college.
Where do graduates go after college?
Since 2024 the Hub has run the college's First Destination Survey, which follows each graduating class to its first job or graduate program. The Hub wants the results to be used. When a student asks an advisor what a major leads to, the advisor should have a page to open. A department should be able to see where its own graduates went. And the Hub's own teams should know which employers and graduate schools to bring to campus.
The results need care. Outcomes come from three sources: graduates' own answers, university records, and public professional profiles. Each records different things, and many majors are small.
How we worked with the Hub
- AugustWe met the Hub's team and sent a proposal.
- SeptemberThe Hub approved our data agreement and handling instructions, and the data arrived. The Hub's team came to one of our meetings to answer our questions about the survey and the file.
- OctoberWe set out what we would deliver in a project initiation document for the Hub's review.
- NovemberEach deliverable was shown to the whole firm and revised until it passed.
- December 2We present to the Hub.
- By December 18We hand over the final versions, the cleaned data, the change log, and the code.
Seven pieces
One-pagers by major for advisors. Reports for departments. A final report in three parts: how graduates found their jobs, what they say about the jobs themselves, and how far the numbers cover the class. A report on first-generation graduates. And a dashboard for the Hub's own use.
